What's Today?

For those of you who are retired, have you ever awoke in the morning and asked "What's today"?  Without an alarm and the daily trudge to work - I often get up at .....well, any time I want - as early as 7 am or as late as 9 am.  It really depends on how late I go to bed.

So, anyway, I get up and get dressed and for a minute or two have to think what is today?  Is it a weekend?  Because then there are things to do (I usually get a manicure, or a pedicure, go shopping etc. )  Or is it a weekday - and depending on which day it is I could have a doctor's appointment, or Avon delivery or meet with some retired friends for breakfast or lunch.

Therefore, after my morning coffee - with my head cleared I finally realize the day and then can go about doing whatever I want to - or maybe I did have something planned for that day.  Is not remembering what day it is ok? But then I think, who cares what day it is because every day is a retirement day.  I don't have to be anywhere I don't want to be. Maybe I will just hang out at the beach.

The best part of a retirement day is you can be spontaneous.  You do remember spontaneity - when you were a child and got up during summer vacation (usually around noon) and decided what you wanted to do.  Well, retirement is like another childhood.... only with a few more aches and pains!

  1. My dad often says the same thing - he has to think about what day it is!
