Review: The Intruder

The Intruder The Intruder by Freida McFadden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love this author and have read all her books.  So when this book came out I didnt hesitate to get it.  While her books are usually psychological thrillers I didnt feel this one was.  Good story following Casey as she runs to a cabin in a remote area.  You knew she was running away from something. With a big storm coming, it was already getting interesting.  The story had us then following "Ella" who makes her way to the same cabin.  And here the story gets interesting as we delve into both lives.  My reason for 4 stars is again I dont like ambiguous endings and wish I got more information.....just me.....but loved, loved the twist at the end.  Did not see that coming.  All in all, a great story.

Review: The Maidens

The Maidens The Maidens by Alex Michaelides
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I loved the Silent Patient by this author, so of course I had to read The Maidens.  Although a bit slow for me, the secret society of Maidens was interesting and while I kept turning the pages, the story itself was incomplete.  A therapist turned detective was my thought on it, although the ending had a little twist.  I still liked The Silent Patient better.  I have found reading his books gives me mixed feelings on the stories.

Review: All This Could Be Yours

All This Could Be Yours All This Could Be Yours by Hank Phillippi Ryan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A wonderful story of family, surprises, drama, secrets, blackmailing and friends.  We follow Tessa Calloway on her book tour with some mystery thrown in.  A big secret from her childhood and a stalker.  This book has a little bit of everything and will have you turning the pages.  I love the story but then again the author never disappoints me with her books.  Definitely put this one on your TBR list.  Better yet, start reading it now!

Review: The Goodbye Year: A Novel

The Goodbye Year: A Novel The Goodbye Year: A Novel by Kaira Rouda
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Although I wasnt a fan of the ending, it was a pretty good book. All endings cannot be to my liking I guess.  But the story itself was amazing (I am a Rouda fan) and the dynamics of the families involved were great.  While I could relate to the story (had children that went off to college) I could not fathom what some of the characters did.  I would love to have a sequel to this book just to get to learn what happened to some of the characters in their next phase of life.

Always enjoy this author's books.

Review: The Forgetting

The Forgetting The Forgetting by Hannah Beckerman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow that was confusing in so many ways.  But the end justified the means and the ending was a powerful look into controlling husbands and submissive wives.  I often yelled at my Kindle for the way Stephen treated Anna.  Just when I thought I knew what was going on, in comes a twist and clears up the whole story with an amazing ending.

I have never read this author before, but be assured I will be reading her other books.  Put it on your TBR list today.

Review: Wilde Women

Wilde Women Wilde Women by Kiersten Modglin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was just released and of course I bought it immediately because...well, its Kiersten Modglin and having read her other books I was anxious for this one.  And it did not disappoint.  Love books that bring you back to the 1700s and how life was then especially for women.  It wasnt easy but it amazes me how strong women were back then.  I am sure todays men and women could never survive.

And so we follow the Wilde women who own Foxglove - never to be owned by a man.  These women fought to keep it in their name - fought even to death.  But Foxglove was magical and protected them.  A heartwarming story of mothers and daughters and what they are capable of when put to the test of defending their home and family.

Review: The Frozen River

The Frozen River The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just finished this one for a book club coming up.  While it is out of my genre I really loved it.  Set in the 1700-1800s we follow Martha Ballard, midwife, through her hard life of tending to her children, her home and delivering babies for the countryside.  But while this era shows women in the submissive way, Martha is far from submissive, taking no sh*t from anyone, man or woman.  She speaks her mind and often gets into trouble for it.  But she never back down.  Loved the storyline.

Review: My Lovely Wife

My Lovely Wife My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, this is one psycho lady....but no lady at all.  This thriller will keep you reading and turning the page until you realize it is scary and Millicent is one dark lady.  Samantha Downing is one of my favorite authors who keeps me looking forward to the next book.

Review: If You Tell a Lie

If You Tell a Lie If You Tell a Lie by Lucinda Berry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

They went to camp and in that year they were sworn to a dark secret they all kept.  But 20 years later, its on the verge of coming out.  Love Lucinda Berry books because they grab you from the first page and they dont let go until the end.  Twists and turns and surprises abound throughout the book.  This one was no exception.  A great cant-put-down book.

Review: Too Old for This

Too Old for This Too Old for This by Samantha Downing
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was so great I didnt want to do anything except read it.  So that is what I did.  Sat on my patio because there were no distractions as I read about this serial killer who retired.  But did she? I guess when opportunity presents itself, just go with it.  All Lottie wanted to do was relax and lead a quiet life with her church friends,  but when a reporter comes by to interview her on her younger days of serial killing the old feelings are stirred up.  She doesnt want to be interviewed and there is only one way she knows how to stop it.

A page turner that you will sit down and just want to read - and not be interrupted.  Loved the story, and the author.  Plan to read her other books too.

Review: One in Four

One in Four One in Four by Lucinda Berry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you are into reality shows, then this book is for you.  And of course, there is a murder so we follow the investigation into the show's participants who are also recovering addicts...or so we think.  Lucinda Berry is a great author and her books never fail to keep me interested and turning the pages.  This book is exciting and never ending roller coaster ride.
