Just finished this one for a book club coming up. While it is out of my genre I really loved it. Set in the 1700-1800s we follow Martha Ballard, midwife, through her hard life of tending to her children, her home and delivering babies for the countryside. But while this era shows women in the submissive way, Martha is far from submissive, taking no sh*t from anyone, man or woman. She speaks her mind and often gets into trouble for it. But she never back down. Loved the storyline.
